Players 2007
Costantino Rocca is the only Italian to date to have
played in The Ryder Cup. Who could forget his crucial singles win by 4
to 2 over Tiger Woods at Valderrama in 1997 to help Europe win. We are
looking forward to his performance in Bad Ragaz.
Last year, the Spaniard Juan Quiros delivered an
impressive performance with his first Tour victory in Bad Ragaz,
winning the coveted cup at 14 under par. He remained in top form and
went on to achieve sixth place in the Order of Merit.
José Rivero played in two winning Ryder Cup Teams in
1985 and 1987. He ended up in third place in his first full season on
the European Seniors Tour, with his victory at the Barbados Open and
winning the lucrative Wales Seniors Open.
High-flyer Carl Mason won 14 titles in less than four
years on the European Seniors Tour. He won the Order of Merit in 2003
and 2004 and finished second behind Sam Torrance in 2006, the same top
two as in 2005.
As a winner of over 75 events across five continents, Sir Bob Charles
is one of the big names in golf. After a successful career on both
sides of the Atlantic, he has amassed a remarkable 26 titles since he
began playing Seniors golf, two of which have been the British Seniors
Open. After joining the US Champions Tour he had become the first
Seniors player to break the $ 5 Mio mark – a figure he has now taken
beyond $ 9 Mio. For 40 years – until 2003 – he held the record as the
only left-hander to have won one of golf´s four major titles.
In his second year on the tour, John Chillas owes his
jump from eight to fourth place in the Order of Merit to his
outstanding performance with ten top places. These include a victory at
the Travis Perkins Seniors Masters at The Wentworth Club in London,
holding off a high quality chasing pack comprising Eamonn Darcy, Carl
Mason and Terry Gale. The Scotsman is one of the most consistent
players on the Seniors Tour.
For Terry Gale, the 2003 season was the high point of
his Senior career so far. With three victories and a place in the top
ten almost every time, he won third place in the Order of Merit behind
the fast-rising stars Mason and Longmuir. Terry has a great career in
the Far East and the Australasian PGA Tour behind him, and was Chairman
of the latter for many years. He started the current season with the
third place in Tobago, followed by a victory at the Bosch Italian
Seniors Open.
Bill Longmuir, alongside Carl Mason, was one of the
fast-rising stars of the 2003 season. After three months of practice at
the Florida home of his long-time friend, the golf champion Greg
Norman, his first title victory came in only his third start, in the
Ryder Cup Wales Seniors Open. Nor was the next victory long in coming,
and we well remember his shared third place in Bad Ragaz. We are
looking forward to welcoming this distinguished golfer again.
